After nearly 20 years of studying and performing classical violin, Nienke shifted her focus from music to visual art with a concentration in photography. Originally from Philadelphia, she moved to Canada to teach the violin for Sistema New Brunswick in Saint John. Consequently, making music became an essential part of her life again.
In collaboration with other artists in New Brunswick, she expanded her knowledge of improvisation and experimenting with the sound and texture of her instrument. Memoir on the Violin is the first of her solo work; an ongoing project in which she has begun to create a soundtrack telling the story of her life thus far.
